Starting over 1 more time

Lacking a proper curriculum for understanding how all the base information systems that create the internet operate together, I have relied primarily on tutorials and forums and reading documents to learn how to establish a virtual presence on the world wide web.

It hasn’t been easy. I’ve gone through several iterations and just when I was closing upon successful completion of a prototype, I got slapped onto a domain block list.

All I did was send 1 email. To myself.

Now that I’m blacklisted, I can’t use smtp which is a major pain for someone who insists on self hosting everything.

So I’m going to try to reset my nameservers one last time and have a better set up with some redundancy.

Before I do that, I want to port over the content site to a new CMS. Wordpress is great for extensibility but it’s just too darn slow for me. I’m using flat press now.

The flat file system is much faster and makes backups/restores/migrations super easy.

After redoing this site several times from scratch, I created a staging site at https://stage.lost.ws. You can always visit here to get the latest bleeding edge updates before they go to the front page.

So once this site and my content site are fully ported over (copy and paste style) I’ll reset my name servers,

I’ll be using 2x mailinabox nodes, 1 in Dallas, TX, and the other somewhere in the Netherlands. Each instance will be the master of 1 domain, and the slave of the other, and help ensure more reliable mail delivery and service resolution in the event of downtime.

I’m going to try to hold my web server and docker managers intact, and just change some names around so my content site can take over serving its own apps on its domain instead of this one.

I also hope to acquire 2 more servers in the next week or so.

If and when this acquisition goes through I should finally have the resources to store and distribute video and live streams, uncensored and ad free.

My final infrastructure should top out at 10 nodes

4x peertube remote runners
1x backups
The remote runners will also run an assorted diversity of other apps.
